Soligere hill trek - Where you feel most alive! 07th
Feb.2006
Bheemeshwari is situated at a
distance of 85 Kms. from Mysore. With an evergreen landscape stretching to the horizon,it is truly a
trekkers paradise. Blessed with the waters of River Cauvery gently meandering
through the valley, the area offers plenty of adventure. Soligere peak through
Soligere village is a popular trekking destination. The hill is densely wooded
with large swathes of thick grass and rocky outcrops. Elephants are known to
frequent the slopes to feed on the tall grass.
Passing
the rocky trail flanked by luxurious foliage brings us to a strategically
placed watch tower.. These watch towers provide excellent vantage points to
view the forests around. The trail is difficult for the casual trekker and the
challenges test the character.
Exploring
the forest provides utmost satisfaction as we progress along canopied paths. The
view of the beautiful valley below, the chirping of birds, the cool breeze blowing through the tall trees and the lively
company of friends make the hill trek memorable. Rich in flora and fauna we
come across varieties of plants, shrubs and small animals. Trekking up the
soligere hill provides an excellent opportunity for bird watching and some rare
species can be sighted
Once
we reach the top, the panoramic views
provide relief to tired bodies and the soul is fully satiated. Spirits are
revived, infusing great enthusiasm.
At
the peak there is a small hunting lodge of the erstwhile Rulers of Mysore.
Sitting in front, one can see river Cauvery snaking its way through hills towards
Sivasamudram and Tamil Nadu.
We
also get the opportunity of spending some wonderful time with friends ensuring
strong bonding
Our
belief that trekking in groups is a
great team building activity and strengthens team spirit, is more
than confirmed after doing the Soligere hill trek.
